What percentage do you tip at spa? ›

General Tipping Guidelines

“If you're at a day spa, it's appropriate to tip 15-20% of the bill”, says Navrajvir Singh, owner of Lakeview and Palm Tree. So if your treatment costed $200, it's appropriate to tip $30. You can go higher and tip $40 if the therapist provided exceptional service.

Many clients find regular trips beneficial in maintaining healthy skin over time, so they visit their favourite spas every two weeks or once per month if possible.

"Depending on the treatment, it may make the skin sensitive or irritated. Try not to feel embarrassed of a little stubble; body therapists are used to it." All of our experts agree that you should keep your menu of treatments in this general order: steam/sauna, bath treatment, scrub, massage, and then facial.

In many cases, you'll get the green light to stay in the spa as long as you're comfortable and feeling well. As a general rule of thumb, most hot tub sessions last between 15 and 45 minutes. If after 45 minutes you want to keep soaking, we recommend stepping out for a bit to give your body a break.

In general, the 20% rule applies to tipping your massage therapist. So, if you're wondering how much to tip for a $100 massage, you'd want to tip $20. If you're considering how much to tip for a 60-minute massage (that costs $100) – you'd still tip $20. However, generosity is generally very appreciated.

A good rule of thumb for tipping in the massage industry is between 15% and 20% of the total service cost, which is the standard practice in the broader service industry. This range is widely accepted as a standard gesture of appreciation for satisfactory to excellent service, and is a perfectly acceptable tip.

After Enjoying Your Hot Tub

You might even turn down the temperature to save on energy when the hot tub is not in use. Always take a shower afterward as well to remove the chemicals from your skin. Don't forget to wash your bathing suit as the chemicals can damage the fabric over time. Most of all, enjoy yourself!

Dress appropriately

Many spas provide robes and slippers for guests to wear during their visit. If the spa doesn't provide these items, ask if you should bring your own. It's best to avoid jewelry and makeup, as they may need to be removed during certain treatments.

But before you head off to a land of honey treatments and luxe pampering, we thought we'd be even more helpful and give you some do's and don'ts for planning and preparing for a spa treatment. DO shower before a treatment. It loosens pores and helps the body begin to detox.

Make sure to go easy on caffeine before your visit -- it's hard to relax on the massage table when you're still jittery from your afternoon coffee! The same goes for eating a heavy meal.

Many clients express their appreciation with a tip ranging from $20 – $75, depending on the expertise of the specialist and their experience as a whole. As treatments can cost hundreds of dollars, we don't require or expect percentage-based tips.

Tipping your Botox injector is generally not a great idea. If you're happy with the outcome of a procedure, like Botox at a medi-spa chain, you may feel inclined to tip, just as you would for a great haircut. But aesthetic medicine is still medicine, and, as a general guideline, you shouldn't leave a tip.

Hair Coloring

Olivia Cassnova, colorist and co-owner of IGK Salon, says that on average you'll want to tip about 20% of the coloring cost, but there's always room to tip a little bit less or more depending on how happy you are with your new color.

Tip for a Private Massage

Since tips are standard protocol for massage therapists, you should assume a 20 percent tip in any massage or spa treatment situation (unless a self-employed therapist specifically tells you their rate is all-inclusive).
