Moosewood donates collection By John Mikytuck Cornell News Service The Moosewood Restaurant which Bon Appetit magazine named one of the Obituaries Beckhorn, Howard J. Troupsburg, NY: Howard J. Beckhorn, 83, of Troupsburg, NY, died on Wednesday, October 13. Howard was a native and long time resident of Knoxville, PA but had lived the last several years with his children in Troupsburg, NY. He was born in Coudersport, PA on July 11, 1927, the son of Creed Beckhorn and Bessie Campbell Beckhorn.

Howard was a self-employed entrepreneur working in various businesses. He married the former Winifred Mapes who predeceased him in 1989. He was also predeceased by his son, Butch Gardner; his brothers, Donald, Leroy and Carl Beckhorn; and his sister, Helen Crooks. Surviving are his sons, Lanny Beckhorn and Mark Beckhorn, both of Andover, NY, Carlyle (Vicky) Beckhorn of Troupsburg, NY, Creed (Mary) Beckhorn of Lindley, NY, and Roy (Nisha) of Roseville, CA; his daughters, Jane Prano, Christine (Robert) Estrata and Jacqueline (Steven) Butler, all of Andover and Winifred Beckhorn of Wellsville, NY. Also surviving are his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gardner of Osceola, PA; and many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Ethel was an avid watcher of soap operas, loved the NY Yankees, loved music and singing but above all she loved her family and friends. Young, Donald William "Bill" Knoxville, PA: Age 79, of 307 East Main Street, Knoxville, PA, passed away Monday, October 11, 2010 at Corning Hospital, Corning, NY. He was born May 22, 1931 in Westfield, PA, the son of Frank and Alberta Ransom Young. Donald retired after working for over 43 years in the foundry at DresserRand. He was a member of the Knoxville Yoked Churches and a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during the Korean Conflict.

Kornuszko of Hammondsport and Fort Lauderdale, age 87, died at home on October, 13, 2010. Dr. Kornuszko was born on April 1, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY to Bronislaw A. Kornuszko and Margaret A. Zawadzki Kornuszko.

He had one older sister, Mary. At age six, Edward began studies on the violin at the Julliard School. In 1937, he gave his debut performance at Carnegie Hall. Dr. Kornuszko went on to play and tour with many orchestral groups both nationally and internationally.

In 1940, Dr. Kornuszko graduated summa cum laude from Boy's High School in Brooklyn, after which he enrolled in City College in a course in pre-medicine and later transferred to St. Bonaventure University in 1942. While classically trained on the violin, he possessed an innate musical talent and also fluently played the tenor saxophone, piano, clarinet, and vibraphone by ear. With the rise of jazz, Dr.

Kornuszko went on to play with Vincent Lopez, Betty Hutton, Sarah Vaughn, and other big bands. His education was interrupted when he enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. During the war, he was placed in Special Services where he entertained troops giving classical concerts, and playing with the Glen Miller Orchestra and Air Force Band. After the war, he continued his education at St. Bonaventure and earned his bachelor's degree i in chemistry in 1948 followed by a master of science degree, while working as a research analytical chemist at the Sinclair Refining Company in Wellsville.

Dr. Kornuszko earned his doctor of dental surgery degree in 1959 from Marquette University. Dr. Kornuszko established two dental practices, in Painted Post and Big Flats. He retired in 1988 and continued to give concerts and play pinochle, his two favorite pass times.

Dr. Kornuszko was a patron of Polish art and culture. He was staunchly anti -communist and aided many Poles, visiting the United States, in fleeing totalitarian oppression and seeking asylum during the Cold War years. Dr. Kornuszko was dedicated to the preservation of sacred Catholic tradition and the restoration of the Latin Tridentine Mass.

He was an ardent supporter of music and benefactor of musical endeavors. Dr. Kornuszko is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Loretta A. Rinke Kornuszko of Hammondsport and Ft. Lauderdale, daughter, Margaret A.

Kornuszko Story of Bethlehem, PA, son, Dr. Edward V. Kornuszko of Boston, and two grandchildren, Keaton Story and Annabella Story.
