Mi Tierra Café y Panaderia is a historic Mexican café and bakery in Market Square that serves classic Tex Mex cuisine, margaritas and live mariachi music. The restaurant has expansive seating and has been run by the Cortez family for over 80 years. This familial establishment is popular with locals and tourists alike for its delicious food, festive atmosphere, and friendly service.

First thing I can say is I grew up with Mexican food as a staple, and this is authentic. It’s high quality. My only negative here was the price seemed high for the quantity of food but if I’m being honest with you what makes it worth it is the atmosphere. It’s just a beautiful place filled with beautiful staff and there’s always great music. This is a wonderful place to make memories. Memories that don’t leave you. I remember every time I’ve been here so vividly it’s a phenomenon in itself. If you’re coming through San Antonio and happen upon this review and you don’t mind pricey Mexican food, come here to make Memories.

Wow! This is a must see and visit when visiting San Antonio! The last time I was here was 20 years ago with my parents. It is a super fun place. We were able to get a booth after a 10 minute wait. Our waiter was prompt and funny. We all had drinks. I had the steak and enchilada plate. Yummy. The drinks were good, but not strong. I have never seen so many people in a restaurant! The bathrooms were big and clean. After eating, we ordered some baked goods. We are going to eat those tonight. Again, this is a must visit place.

We were looking for a Great place to eat Mexican food, so we drove to San Antonio and went to Mi Tierra Cafe and they did NOT disappoint. I started off with a delicious Watermelon Margarita. Then I ordered their Mole enchiladas with rice and beans and all was so good. Everyone in my party was pleased with their meal. Our Server Cesar was so attentive and nice considering he was very busy. It was my Mother-in-law's Birthday and they brought out a piece of cake and sang to her. The atmosphere was very nice and clean. The next day we went back for Mexican Sweet Bread and that too was so good. I will be eating here again when I go back.I recommend you give it a try when you're in San Antonio.

I really want to love this place. It’s like stepping back into a time warp. It’s definitely old school with some crazy Mexican Christmas decorations. I really love the atmosphere, but the standard food is just not very good. Nothing seemed very fresh or hot. And everything have the slightest hint of ode to cigarette smoke which was very weird. And I would avoid the cheesecake since the texture was like glue. We didn’t have any adult beverages but the ones on the other tables looked fantastic. Also, another table ordered fajitas which smelled great. That all said, I still would probably return if we are going to El Mercado around lunchtime, but I think I would sit in the bar and order fajitas.

We went on Christmas day. Lots of ornaments, and a festival of colors! I wanted to try more things, so I ordered the dinner platter. Fajita was great! Enchilada was good, and taco was okay. It might be because of the crowd and due to the fact that we went on Christmas, but I felt like it's more designed for tourists and a little less authentic than I expected. But overall a pleasant experience! Margarita was good too!

This place is popular and has a long wait, especially on weekends. We waited for 30 minutes and used that time to get in the bakery line for some bread. They have a large amount of bread and pastries to choose from and they all looked so good. The restaurant was decorated very upbeat and really makes you feel included in the atmosphere. I got beef tacos, which was more like rolls than tacos, and the beef was a bit too salty. But it was very flavorful and the sides were good too. The tamale entree was also really good and definitely filled us up. The bakery and the restaurant were both relatively cheap for the amount of food you get and how busy they are.

Food was truly fantastic, and seemed authentic. Great spice and unique flavors. Yes, there will be a wait, and it will probably be at least 45 min. Was it worth it? Yes, I though so. Get your painter for a table, then stand in line for pastries. Both items we got were good enough for us to bring with us on a 2 hour drive!

🌮 Best Burritos Ever 🌮Mia Tierra is a festive, authentic experience that’s well worth tasting. Every room is a vibrant array of lights, wall murals, and sculptures. There’s a massive bakery up front with delicious desserts and confections for sale, and the walls are covered in pictures of famous people who have dined there before you.My waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. When I accidentally received the wrong item (my fault), she was quick to order a replacement and it arrived fresh and warm within minutes. I immensely enjoyed performances by the wandering musicians as well.I have never tasted burrito shells as fluffy, tasty, and positively addicting as these. I found myself reaching for them again and again, filling them with leftover salsa and guacamole, as well as anything that fell from my main entree.Expect to take *lots* of pictures when you visit! There’s much for the eye to behold.

This place is a must. If you are looking for an iconic place in San Antonio, look no further. The food is authentic and impressive. The drinks are strong. Expect to wait in a long line, we waited about an hour. But while you wait, they have awesome bar along with bakery shop up front and you can walk around plaza while you wait too. The food and service was top notch. the portion is huge. The park can be difficult due to street parking. Staff are friendly which enhanced our great experience.

This place is always packed. They used to be 24X7 now they are 8am - midnight Monday-Sunday. Of course always check the web site to see if the hours may have changed or if they are closed for some reason. The food is good, there are some that they say they’ve had better. The beef tips were nice and tender. The rice and beans were okay. The Chile relleno was okay. The bakery is awesome! The sad part, a lot of tourists visit this place.

Dinner at Mi Tierra tonight was decent. There was a wait time but on a busy Saturday evening, that is to be expected. The food was not the best and a bit overpriced. The service was great and portion sizes were big. I really liked all the decorations. The murals and shrines look quite beautiful. Overall, I had a good experience and would go again.

We went here for breakfast and loved this place in every way. For the low prices (relative to California), they dish up really high quality and tasty food. My huevos rancheros came with 3 of the best flour tortillas that I've had anywhere. Our coffee cups were never empty. Our server was so friendly and treated us like family. We also loved the Christmas decor all over the restaurant.

Mi tierra is a must when in San Antonio!! We love the eclectic and bright atmosphere that they have managed to create with their decorations! It’s so fun!! The food itself is good but not great, about as good as Tex Mex can get! They do have an extensive menu tho and a wide variety of pan dulce! It can get very busy especially on the weekends so make sure you make a reservation if you are a big party, the wait can be quite long (but worth it!) we also love the mariachis!

The food and drinks are always amazing. I brought my dog today and we were accommodated to sit on the patio. Our server Brianna was amazing! Service was 100/10. First time dining in instead of take out and we had a great time. Will definitely be back!

A family favorite for 50 plus years. Food always delicious and authentic. Chicken enchiladas en mole. My first visit was in 70s my great uncle knew the owner and we would dine occasionally at a large table. My great uncle worked for the El Po Po tortilla company. Taking my wife and daughter there is always fun and a tradition. We were there during Fiesta. Long wait was worth it. Thank you for another wonderful dining experience.

You can’t go wrong with this place! Arguably the best Mexican food downtown! Their chips are the perfect thickness so they have a great crunch. The salsa has a great flavor I wish they had one with a little more heat! The fajitas were very tender and were not chewy like other restaurants. Rice and beans were traditional and were enjoyed! Oh yeah the tortillas were so soft and delightful! The pictures say it all! Thanks Mi Tierra for great food, atmosphere, and service!

We love this place!!! Every time we visit San Antonio we come here at least once if not more. Prices are reasonable especially compared to the bigger chain Mexican restaurants that their food isn't that great but prices are way too high. Food, atmosphere and the people are awesome!! We highly recommend this place. AND you must get something from the bakery! Absolutely delicious.

Deborah I — Google review

Pastries are a must try and are super cheap. The food is also very good (not the best Mexican I’ve ever had but still very tasty with good portion sizes). Atmosphere is a wow and the kids loved looking at everything. There is usually a wait at this place the few times we have come so plan accordingly and arrive early. Parking is a bit hard to find.

Everything about this place is wonderful. It’s a whole experience all on its own. I Will absolutely return. Luz is a very attentive server with a very welcoming energy. The bakery has freshly baked treats and the restaurant is fantastic! Thank you for the wonderful time Mi Terra cafe.

Dyers D — Google review

Love the food and pastries here! We will definitely return. It seems like the bar was the place to go if you didn't want to wait. The bartenders were super nice and the food was just as good there as it was anywhere else. Seems like there was I'm almost a 40 minute wait. That said it's arguably some of the better Mexican food down there and the Pandaria it's almost unconquerable. There's so much food! You won't be disappointed.

Hans H — Google review

Went during the winter storm and so it was empty but the food and atmosphere were awesome. Very colorful. Friendly waiter and fun live music.Beans and rice were excellent. Enchiladas were also money!

Steven C — Google review

Every room of this place is beautifully decorated! This was the best Mexican food we've ever had and we eat Mexican a lot! My husband got beef tips and I had the beef enchiladas. The flour tortillas are homemade and you can tell, it's so good! I'm not a big fan of margaritas, but after tasting their award winning one, we had two! And if the Mariachi band asks if you want to hear a song, say yes! $10, but it really adds to the experience!

L — Google review

Fun place and area to eat at! The vibrant atmosphere and lively ambiance make this place a great spot to gather with friends or family. Neat and historical restaurant to visit! However, the only downside are the servers constant insistence on clearing the table. Which can feel a bit intrusive at times. It's understandable that they want to maintain a clean and organized dining area, but it would be nice if they could be a little more relaxed about it.Nonetheless, the friendly and attentive staff make up for this minor inconvenience. They are always ready to assist and provide recommendations, ensuring that you have a delightful dining experience.Mariachi Band was great, but they won’t play for you unless you have $10.00 cash - bring cash for a more memorable experience!

What a disappointment. Know this place for over 18 years, and it was always a MUST STOP AND EAT. But now it's NOT. Ordered beef milanesa, what a piece of garbage. Look at the pictures, and you will understand. I never give bad reviews, but this time, I'm sorry I have too. Breakfast time and lunch, super super crowded, not worth the wait, I came back at dinner time , around 630 pm. Seating was fast, 5 minutes. The server took 20 minutes to take our water order, then another 20 to bring the chips and salsa, which was good. After another 20 or so, the server came over to ger the order. Oh my God, milanesa was paper thin and inedible, lots of nerves and was mainly breading, super greasy and thick. The 3 slices of roasted potatoes were more microwave heated and soggy. Remained on the plate when I left. Diminutive salad was ok, rice and beans, salty. Like always atmosphere is great. I don't know what happened to this place, but I'm not coming back. Judge for yourself.

Very festive decor. Food was very good. Small bowl of chips and refill was not offered. They have watermelon margaritas but would not recommend as it not made with watermelon juice. Strawberry would be a better choice here. Cool bakery on site as well.

Sunny S — Google review

The place was lively and the service was great. Our waiter just appeared out of nowhere on several occasions to check up on us and made sure our chips and salsa was always full. The food and michelada was just OK. I've had better mexican in the Orlando area. The place does make you feel that you ate sitting in Mexico though with mariachi bands and all.

The food here was amazing. I can't remember the last time I had Mexican food that good that wasn't made by my family. The only issue here is the fact that they are so popular. The wait times can get pretty long. Some ppl were having to wait 40 min to be seated which is unfortunate.Would I go back though? Absolutely.

Hector G — Google review

We have always gone here to just go to the bakery. I finally got the opportunity to to come for breakfast and it was delicious! The wait wasn’t long during spring break. Amazing Mariachi singers!

Jennifer D — Google review

We have been coming here for 30 years. The food is way too much and servings have become smaller. I am giving up after 30 years trying other places. Service was good however they served one small bowl of chips and never offered to refill it. Try this place once you may come to the same opinion over priced TexMex. It used to be my go to place that is ending . My glass of Sangria also was small and poor quality for the price. Too many negatives anymore.

After we arrived in San Antonio Texas someone recommended us to this place.First the food we try couple of authentic Mexican dishes each was really delicious. They serve huge meal I had lunch I’m still full won’t eat till tomorrow…The service the ladies with the Mexican dress makes really unique and traditional this place the decoration, the live music with those people walking around with the guitars and singing it’s just a perfect match with your experience. We were lucky to meet with the owner he told us the history of the restaurant and his family also the friends and all the peoples who worked there and passed away. The wall art painting amazing! Our server Kathleen was not just very welcoming she bring big smile with our food. Thank you 😊P.S. must try the chocolate leches!!!

¡Este restaurante es fantástico! Our waitress said she was going to be slow, but she definitely wasn't. We did the bakery before dinner and got 5 items for about $13.50 and then we went back again AFTER dinner, again! The Mexican Chicken Fajitas were very good and so were the tortillas. I highly recommend this place and the bakery.

We went for breakfast. I had the breakfast Tostadas topped with barbacoa and egg. I was not too impressed. The barbacoa was really fatty and stringy and hard to eat. The salsas were good, especially the dark roasted one. I loved all the pan dulce we bought, including the iced cookies. I was shocked that I enjoyed every piece we bought to try out, especially the strawberry rolls and maranitos. Will definitely come back to buy more and try the lunch menu. Prepare to pay a pretty penny for the pan dulce compared to your normal neighborhood bakery. So worth it though.

Hadn’t been here in a long time. And it was just as I remembered. The atmosphere and decor still a staple of Mi Tierra. My wife and I came early so we were able to beat the rush and get seated within 15 minutes. Had our coffee and breakfast. Looking forward to coming back soon.
