Pavilion Cinemas to reopen next week

NAPLES, FL — Following a nearly $3 million upgrade, the Pavilion Cinemas will reopen on May 1. The new theatre will offer all reserved seating and a full menu. Not bad for a theatre that opened in 1984.

New cinemas on the drawing board for Miami and Green Oaks

GREEN OAKS, IL — Milwaukee-based Marcus Theatres has announced that it will acquire the land required to build a theater with as many as fifteen screens just off I-94 in Green Oaks, IL which is east of Libertyville. One of the screening rooms will be home to one of the company’s large format UltraScreens. An opening in early 2012 is anticipated. There is more in the Libertyville Review.

MIAMI, FL — For quite some time, residents of downtown Miami have had to travel quite some distance to see the latest releases at a modern cinema. But this is expected to change late in late 2012 early in 2013. Silverspot Theaters has agreed to build a luxury twelve-plex in the Metropolitan Miami Complex at Biscayne Boulevard and Southeast Third Avenue where it will join a luxury hotel and a Whole Foods as part of an emerging upscale urban center. Silverspot currently operates an upscale multiplex in Naples, FL. The story appeared in the Miami Herald.

Former Stadium 12 in Bonita Springs to re-open as cafe cinema

BONITA SPRINGS, FL — The Regal Stadium 12, which closed in June, will re-open in as the Prado Cinema Cafe. The twelve screens will remain; new amenities will include leather seats, a grill menu, beer and wine availability, and wait service. The Prado’s other tenants hope the theater’s re-opening will increase traffic at the distressed shopping plaza.

Four months after Regal Stadium 12 shuttered its doors in Bonita Springs, a new movie theater has announced plans for a return to the big screen in full Hollywood style, with more bells and more whistles.

Cinema Cafe is expected to open in February in The Prado at Spring Creek on U.S. 41, featuring 12 screens, leather seats, beer and wine service, a grill menu and waiter service.

“The Prado Cinema Cafe will bring a long overdue, upgraded cinema experience with value-added services to the Lee County area, but at affordable, everyday prices,” said Doug Olson, sales and leasing specialist for LandQwest Commercial, who secured the deal.

Bucking the trend, new Naples cinema targets older audience

NAPLES, FL — Perhaps it’s not surprising given its location, but the new Silverspot Cinema 11 is going after the mature audience, both in terms of its amenities and its programming. The first U.S. installation operated by the Venezuela-based Cines Unidos, the multiplex features deluxe seating, a beer and wine bar, and a restaurant. There is no box office; tickets are sold on-line or at kiosks.

“It’s really the plushest theater I’ve ever sat in,” says Eric Raddatz, executive director for Naples International Film Festival, which will be held there Nov. 5-8. “Every chair in there is like a leather La-Z-Boy sofa. It’s amazing.”
