Community Partnerships Make a Huge Difference! The American Heart Association and Food For Health are united in their fight against cardiovascular disease and their maternal health & infant support. This week, American Heart Association's Susan Hjelsand, Katie Connolly, and Katherine Knoll visited Food For Health for a first-floor tour and engaging program discussion. During their visit, the AHA team generously brought 25 new mom kits for Food For Health's Maternal & Infant Health program. We are incredibly grateful for their support! Each of the 25 bags contained essential items including a blood pressure monitor, CPR Infant Practice and Training Kit, red knit baby cap, and informative handouts. Together with the American Heart Association, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of mothers and infants, fighting cardiovascular disease, and promoting healthy pregnancies. Exciting news!Food For Health has been selected as an expert member of the Coding4Food Project! In healthcare, accurate coding is pivotal for billing, tracking patient journeys, and assessing outcomes. There is a pressing need for new codes so that Food is Medicine interventions can be documented and billed for in our healthcare systems. Food For Health’s selection as a subject matter expert for the medically tailored meals (MTM) workgroup underscores our leadership and expertise in MTM services. Through our participation, we’ll help shape the development of Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes, including medically tailored meals and groceries, medically supportive meals and groceries, pantry stocking, food pharmacies, and produce prescriptions.The meetings will be led by Gravity Project, a public collaborative that develops consensus-based data standards to improve how we use and share information on social determinants of health (SDOH). To support the Gravity Project, each workgroup will also have a practitioner lead who is on the Coding4Food Advisory Committee. They will be responsible for sharing public report-outs of the workgroup’s progress.We’re excited about working with other experts and the Coding4Food Project to advance healthcare delivery. These efforts will enhance patient care, improve outcomes, and foster greater integration of nutrition-based approaches within the healthcare system. Yesterday, Food For Health hosted our first outdoor Summer Grilling class as part of our BeFueled community cooking series! Our very own Chef Jona Silva, with the support of Chef David Dewey, highlighted the benefits of grilling, answered questions, and prepared a healthy lunch of grilled chicken pitas with red peppers and sweet potatoes, homemade hummus, cucumber dill sauce, and grilled peaches with sorbet for dessert. 🎉 Congratulations to our friendsMichael DeMicheleandHGAon winning a2024 Cream of the Cream City Award in the Commercial Restoration category for their design of Food For Health's Headquarters! This powerhouse team transformed a former commercial supply building into a state-of-the-art facility to house our staff and on-site community classes and programming.
