February 2, 1989 Page 9C Deaths Macon Telegraph and News J.E. Bentley Sr. REYNOLDS J.E. "Johnnie" Bentley 88, of Montague Street died Tuesday in an Atlanta hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m.

Saturday in White Hill Baptist Church in Reynolds. Burial will be in Carson Cemetery in Reynolds. The Rev. W.E. Sanders will officiate.

A of Taylor County, Mr. Bentley was a J.E. Bentley member of White Hill Baptist Church, chairman emeritus of the deacon board, clerk of the church and an adult Sunday school teacher for 59 years. He was the son of the late Tom and Ellen Bentley. He was founder and general manager of the Mutual Aid Society and the Bentley chain of funeral homes in Georgia.

He was a funeral director and a member of the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association and of local and national associations. He was treasurer of the Second Flint River Sunday School Department, chairman of the trustee board of the Flint River Association and a teacher of the Taylor County Brotherhood Union. He was a board member of Olive Grove Light Society and an honorary member of the Masonic Lodge No. 226. Mr.

Bentley was also a notary public, past president of the Taylor County Democratic Club and was appointed lieutenant colonel aide-de-camp of the Georgia governor's staff. Survivors include his wife, Cleone Gibson Bentley of Reynolds; four daughters, Lillie B. Hogan and Easter B. Hicks, both of Detroit, Eloyse B. Lockhart of Reynolds and Sylvia Bentley of Roberta; two sons, J.E.

Bentley Jr. of Thomaston and Willie James Bentley of Reynolds; 22 grandchildren and several greatgrandchildren. Bentley's Funeral Home in Reynolds has charge of arrangements. Clara Jones Smith Middle Georgia A native of Boston, Mrs. Smith had lived in Wilkinson County for a number of years.

She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a homemaker. Survivors include three sons, Frank C. Smith of McIntyre, Dr. James H. Smith of Greenwood, S.C., and George Clifton Smith of Wrightwood, two brothers.

Evans and Jacob Parker will officiate. Hosea Rancifer A native of Brookhaven, the Rev. Rancifer was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.W.

Rancifer. He was a member of Silone Missionary Baptist Church. He attended the Georgia Baptist Seminary College, Georgia Baptist College, Macon Vocational School and the Morehouse School of Religion. He was the pastor of Center Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev.

Rancifer has been a member of the ministry since 1941. He was one of the organizers and builders of Center Hill Missionary Baptist Church in 1946. He served as pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Lakeside for. 41 years, Union Baptist Church for 32 years and Mount Calvary Baptist Church in South Macon for 19 years. He was president for two years, past secretary and treasurer of the Baptist Minister's Union in Macon.

He was a member of the J.H. Walker Masonic Lodge No. 55, the Brothers and Sisters of Love, Sons and Daughters of Ruth, Friendship Brothers and Sisters of Love and Supreme Circle Societies. He was part of the civil rights movement in the 1960s and was affiliated with the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. Survivors include his wife, Cora Rancifer of Macon; three daughters, Frances D.

Emery of Macon, Cora Driskell of Tuskegee, and Ella Mae Ellis of New Orleans; two sisters, Ora Stovall and Rosetta Henry A. Johnson SPARTA Henry A. Johnson, 81, of Route 2, Box 452, died Tuesday in an Augusta hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today in Pierce Memorial United Methodist Church in Sparta.

Johnson lived in Hanco*ck County most of his life. He was the owner of the Johnson Lumber Co. in Sparta and a member of Pierce Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a retired electronics engineer of Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. He was owner and operator of a radio- and television-repair business in Montezuma. He was a member of Montezuma United Methodist Church and the Baracca Sunday School Class. He was a World War II Army veteran.
